Cat Tien National Park, about 160 km north of Saigon, can be
reached by hired 4-wheel-drive vehicle (front wheel passenger cars can actually
make it these days). You turn west at Tan Phu along National Highway 20 (there's
a marked sign), drive 23 km to the Dong Nai River and cross the river aboard
a dilapidated ferry, which lands at the park entrance. (Motorcyclists: the
road from Tan Phu to Cat Tien is in dismal shape and is best left to experts.)
The entrance fee to the park, which is paid at the park station on the eastern
side of the Dong Nai River, is 40,000 VND ($US 2.80) for foreign tourists
and 20,000 (US$1.40) for children under 15.
